SysOps in Action: The MLSysOps Hackathon
A hackathon is an event where people come together to work intensively on creating a project or solving a problem in a short period of time. In simple terms, it is like a marathon for building things quickly!
Get ready for a full-immersion experience of tech challenges, creativity, and networking with experts from across Europe.
The MLSysOps Hackathon will take place on September 26–27, 2025 at the University of Calabria (Italy) — two days of innovation where you will have the opportunity to:
- Tackle real-world problems focused on the integration of ML with system management;
- Collaborate with researchers, developers, and industry professionals;
- Learn from expert mentors and discover hands-on approaches;
- Connect with an international community of like-minded people.
We designed the event in a way that will be simple for participants with no internal knowledge of our MLSysOps project and limited computing resources to enjoy working to solve the challenge. While, of course, the challenge will be unveiled at the beginning of the hackathon, the general objective of this event is to illustrate some of the more interesting and appealing capabilities of our project.
Participants will form teams and design, build, and present to our judges and to the other participants the result of their work. To ensure fairness, we defined a quantifiable metric to decide the winner team, which will bring home the Award along with a cool prize!

How to participate
The hackathon is open to everybody with proactive, creative problem-solving skills who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. While no specific background is required, you will get the most out of the experience if you have some prior knowledge in Python, REST, ML tools/API as well as a basic notion of concepts such as micro-service paradigm, container, VM, and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
In terms of personal equipment, all you will need is a laptop with a ML tool/pipeline to train and serialize ML models (which you will subsequently integrate in the MLSysOps platform via a simple command line interface, to control the way application deployment decisions will be taken).
